September Birthstone Sapphire
Did you Know, That Sapphire ( greek word for blue), contrary to popular belief is not exclusively a blue gemstone. Sapphire can occur in a wide variety of colours from clear white Sapphire to the darkest black Sapphire. On the Mohs scale of hardness it is 2nd from the top. This makes Sapphire a great gemstone for jewellery which is worn every day.
Without exception the most popular colour of Sapphire is the deep vivid Ceylon blue, a perfect example being the magnificent oval Sapphire as worn by Princess Diana, and now Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
Sapphire, apart from being the traditional birthstone of September, it is also the 45th wedding anniversary gift. Sapphire has much association with folklore, and is said to have healing associations with the eyes, sight, the soul. A much sought after stone indeed.
